The City of Raleigh Department of Transportation conducted a design competition for custom bus shelters that would promote the GoRaleigh brand and be placed throughout the City.
Through public input and architectural experts, the custom bus shelters have been designed by a local architectural firm (Clark Nexsen) with the building contract awarded to a local manufacturing firm. Two of these shelters are available at the North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA) for riders to see, examine, and try out.
Obtaining feedback from riders is vital. Please let us know your thoughts on the custom bus shelter design, safety, and usability.

Reasonable Modification / Accommodation Policy
The Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) has recently revised the rules for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The revised rules provide for public transit organizations to make reasonable modifications and accommodations to policies, practices and procedures to avoid discrimination and to ensure accessibility to individuals with disabilities. Individuals with disabilities may request that GoRaleigh make reasonable accommodations in order to fully use transit services. All requests should be made by submitting a Reasonable Accommodation Request verbally or in writing. To obtain a form or to file a request verbally please call 919-996-4087. Title VI Notice to the Public
GoRaleigh hereby gives public notice of its policy to uphold and assure full compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and all related acts and statutes.
Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin in programs and activities receiving Federal financial assistance. Specifically, Title VI provides that “no person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance” (42 U.S.C. Section 2000d).
GoRaleigh is committed to a program of non-discrimination in the conduct of its business and in the delivery of equitable and accessible transportation services. The responsibility for day-to-day operations of the Title VI program, including the investigation of Title VI complaints, has been assigned to the Title VI Compliance Officer. However, all GoRaleigh employees share in the responsibility for implementing this program.

GoRaleigh Title VI Complaint and Investigation Procedures
These procedures cover all complaints under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Executive Order 12898 “Federal Actions to Address Environmental Justice in Minority Populations and Low-Income Populations” (1994), and Executive Order 13166 “Improving Access to Services for Person with Limited English Proficiency” (2000), for alleged discrimination in any program or activity administered by GoRaleigh.
The following is a summary of the procedures that GoRaleigh uses for investigation and resolution of Title VI customer complaints.
- Any person who believes she or he has been discriminated against on the basis of race, color, or national origin by GoRaleigh may file a Title VI complaint by completing and submitting the agency’s Title VI Complaint Form. Complaints must be received within 180 days of the alleged incident and must be complete.
- Once the complaint is received, GoRaleigh will review it to determine if our office has jurisdiction. The complainant will receive an acknowledgment letter informing her/him whether the complaint will be investigated by our office.
- GoRaleigh has 90 days to investigate the complaint. If more information is needed to resolve the case, GoRaleigh may contact the complainant. The complainant has 30 business days from the date of the letter to send requested information to the investigator assigned to the case. If the investigator is not contacted by the complainant or does not receive the additional information within 30 business days, GoRaleigh can administratively close the case. A case can be administratively closed also if the complainant no longer wishes to pursue their case.
- After the investigator reviews the complaint, she/he will issue one of two letters to the complainant: a closure letter or a letter of finding (LOF). A closure letter summarizes the allegations and states that there was not a Title VI violation and that the case will be closed. An LOF summarizes the allegations and the interviews regarding the alleged incident, and explains how the situation will be addressed, and whether any disciplinary action, additional training of the employee, or other action will occur. If the complainant wishes to appeal the decision, she/he has 90 days after the date of the letter or the LOF to do so.
