West Drewry Lane Stormwater Improvements

Culvert Replacement / Streambank Stabilization

We improved the stormwater system on West Drewry Lane. The 72-inch metal pipe was replaced with a reinforced concrete box culvert. We also upgraded the water and sewer systems.

We finished this project in 2018. There are a few repairs that need to be made to the stream. More details below.

Repairs Required

Since we’ve finished the project in 2018, there have been some issues with the stream on W. Drewry Lane. The streambanks are unstable and in some areas have completely failed. We are planning to repair the stream by:

  • Resetting some of the boulders in the stream;
  • Reshaping the stream; and,
  • Adding 30 feet to the boulder wall at the culvert outlet that carries stormwater under W. Drewry Lane.

Recent Work

We finished the design for these repairs. We also received all environmental permits in July 2021. We're planning to start construction in early 2022. More details coming soon.

Initial Construction Work

The contractor, Browe Construction Company, finished construction in 2018. This included:

  • Installing a six-foot-by-seven-foot box culvert;
  • Finishing the streambank stabilization part of the project, which included grading the streambanks and installing structures that reduce erosion and control the flow of the stream;
  • Installing a sewer manhole and replaced sections of sewer and water pipes in the project area; and,
  • Replacing the curb and gutter and repaving the road.

The warranty period ended in July 2019.

History

A large rainstorm in September 2012 bent and eroded a metal stormwater pipe on West Drewry Lane. The area around the pipe was unsafe, so we closed the road for emergency repairs in 2013. This project made more upgrades to the system.
