District D Council
Saige Martin was elected to serve District D on the Raleigh City Council in 2019.
Council Member Martin is the vice-chair of the Council's Growth and Natural Resources Committee and is on the Council's Safe, Healthy, and Vibrant Community Committee.
Saige is the first of many: one of the first openly LGBTQ people elected, the youngest person elected, and the first Latino elected to the Raleigh City Council. Saige is ready to bring a progressive and bold vision for democratic engagement and growth to District D and to Raleigh .
A native of Pennsylvania, Saige grew up in Bucks County and invested in activism, the arts, and community service. He received his undergraduate degree in cultural anthropology from Hawai'i Pacific University in Honolulu, HI. His professional work includes the United Nations. He traveled to more than 20 countries while working for the United Nations before taking a position at UN headquarters in New York.
Saige moved to Raleigh in 2014 and has been involved in political and communications consulting and community organizing. He will graduate from N.C. State University's College of Design with a Master's Degree in Art and Design in May 2020.
His personal and professional life revolves around community organizing, engagement, and activism to build more resilient communities. He brings this same passion and commitment to his service on Raleigh City Council.
