David Knight

District E Council Member

David Knight was elected to serve District E on the Raleigh City Council in 2019.

Council Member Knight serves as vice-chair of the Council's Economic Development and Innovation Committee and is on the Council's Growth and Natural Resources Committee. 

A native of Burlington, David attended UNC-Chapel Hill and Wake Forest University Law School. He has worked in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, as a practicing attorney with Latham & Wood, LLC, director of government relations for NC Nature Conservancy, and as Assistant Secretary of Natural Resources for the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources. He most recently served as director of the North Carolina Outdoor Recreation Industry Office, and he currently works as an environmental lobbyist, consultant, and attorney.

David’s community involvement includes his previous service as chair of the Wake County Water Partnership and the Raleigh Water Conservation Task Force. He is also a former member of the City of Raleigh Parks & Greenways Advisory Board.

David is committed to working with all of the citizens of District E to make Raleigh livable for current residents and for future generations.

David lives in the heart of District E with his wife Avery and their two sons. An avid outdoorsman, David has completed two marathons and numerous triathlons. He enjoys hiking, cycling, skiing, backpacking, and hunting.
